What other factors need to be considered when designing sheet metal processing

Publish Time: 2024-08-17
When designing sheet metal processing, in addition to common factors such as shape, size, and material selection, the following important aspects need to be considered:

1、 Manufacturing processability

Bending radius: Sheet metal of different materials and thicknesses require a suitable bending radius during bending, and a too small bending radius may cause material breakage. For example, for thin aluminum plates, the bending radius may need to be relatively large.

Punching and cutting: The size, shape, and position of the hole should consider the strength of the material and the feasibility of processing. If the holes are too close to the edge or to each other, it may affect the structural strength.

Welding requirements: If there are welding parts in the design, the position and type of the weld seam (such as spot welding, argon arc welding, etc.) as well as deformation control after welding should be considered.

2、 Cost factors

Material cost: Choosing suitable materials not only requires meeting performance requirements, but also considering material price and supply stability.

Processing cost: Complex shapes and high-precision requirements may increase processing time and cost. For example, multiple bending or high-precision punching may increase costs.

3、 Functionality and durability

Protective performance: If used for protective shells, waterproof, dustproof, shock resistant and other performance should be considered.

Corrosion resistance: Select materials with corresponding corrosion resistance or perform surface treatments such as galvanizing, painting, etc. according to the usage environment.

Fatigue life: For components subjected to frequent vibrations or dynamic loads, it is necessary to ensure that they have sufficient fatigue life.

4、 Assembly and maintenance

Assembly convenience: The design should facilitate assembly with other components, taking into account assembly tolerances and positioning methods.

Maintenance channel: If later maintenance is required, sufficient maintenance channels and detachable parts should be reserved.

5、 Appearance requirements

Surface quality: If a smooth, scratch free, and uneven surface is required.

Color and coating: Choose the appropriate color and coating treatment method based on the overall appearance requirements of the product.

In summary, sheet metal processing design is a comprehensive task that requires consideration of multiple factors to ensure that the designed sheet metal products not only meet functional requirements, but also have good manufacturability, economy, and reliability.
